I brought a lcd television from xxxxx 7 weeks ago and when i went to turn it on there was smoke coming out of the back of it. I phoned customer services and was told that i would have to wait 4 days for an engineer to come out and guess what on the day he was due, after endless phone calls to who promised the engineer would be here, he didnt turn up.So the next day i rang them and was told that they would look into why the engineer did not show. After endless phone calls again from myself to they eventually told me that the engineer company that they use were prepared to write off my television without even looking at it and i would have to wait again for them to send me out a letter in the post with a reference number on so i could get a new television from their store. I have never come across this before and as my television is only 7 weeks old then i thought that due to it catching fire then the store would exchange it as a goodwill gesture but it looks like comet has no sense of goodwill so it is definately a store i will avoid in the future and recomend others do as well.

re TV

Hi Keri77,

Can you email our consumer editor, Anne Hunt at consumer@thatslife.co.uk. She may be able to follow up the problems you've had with your TV on our Fight For Your Rights page in the magazine. i had to delete the name of the store you bought your TV from because we can't say defamatory things about a store without getting a right of reply — something we do as a matter of course in the magazine

Look forward to hearing from you,

Ed

faulty tv
I bought a TV at £500, from a very well known supermarket 18 months ago, it came with a 12 month warranty( i was not offered an extended warranty on purchace)6 months after the warranty ran out Bang went the tv!! i asked for a repair a replacement i even said i would accept vouchers to from the store to purchace another. I have been offered a measley £200 compensation as mt TV did not last as long as they expected!!! They say they are within their rights to do so as out of waaranty when i explained i wasnt offered an extension they said they only set up theyr extended plan after i bought my TV.GRRRRRRRRRRRR I wrote to HO i visited the store and i emailed their CEO( i found his email on a forum) to which they all more or less said UNLUCKY!!!!!
