Gastric Band Surgery or Tummy Tuck
I do believe gastric band surgery or tummy tucks should be available to all on NHS.
I have a serious bowel problem and take steriods which means I have put on a lot of weight, and I have had surgery for this.
I have worked full time since leaving school and paid in to the NHS and I feel due to this health problem I should be able to have a tummy tuck on the NHS.
It is not fair when people have breast enhancements on the NHS because they dont like what the have, at least they are healthy.
Yet I have a medical condition which I have had to take steroids for over many years and I have a scar down my stomach from an operation and I cant have a tummy tuck on the NHS.
I go to the gym 5 days per week and eat healthy food yet due to medication I have excess weight which the NHS will notpay to remove.

Unless the excessive weight
Unless the excessive weight gain is caused by a genuine medical reason such as the above posters or similar, I do not believe the NHS should be wasting money on people who are too lazy to eat and exercise properly.
People like myself who are disabled are denied much needed medical treatment and equipment due to the high costs. We did not asked to be handicapped and I am sure majority did not cause their disability. Why should people who allow themselves to become severely overweight be given highly priced gastric surgery, followed by major surgery to cut away excess saggy skin.
Before anyone suggest I am probably Ms Super skinny, the answer is not really. Due to medication I am about 20 pounds over weight and doing my best to solve this issue. My mum is severely overweight due to a thyroid disorder. She would rather the NHS funds were used to help with her crumbling arthritic joints than risky weight loss surgery - though she would love to lose weight.
Too many people are also denied life extending drugs to ease cancer and MS due to the high costs. Even though millions of pounds are donated to research to help create these drugs, the price tags on these wonder drugs are too high for the NHS. After all we would not want the NHS to lose the 7 million profit they made this year by wasting it on necessary medical needs. tsk

GASTRIC BAND
I had a gastric band put in place 3 years ago and what a difference it has made to my life. I was 21 stone and a size 28. I could not play with my grandchildren. I am now 13 stone and a size 16/18 which I am happy with. I do not regret my decision to have the surgery. Last year I had an apronectomy to remove the excess weight and look forward now to playing with my grandchildren before they grow up.
