i think this is a great thing
i have adult polycystic kidney disease and can go into renal failure at any time
i have a great family who will be there if this happens (all but my mum who also has this disease so couldnt get her kidney)
I also carry a donor card.
i have always wanted to donate all my organs etc when i die because i think how i would feel if that was me sitting there waiting for an organ or worse still my children. But i dont carry a donor card i have told my husband of my wishes and my parents etc because i know this sounds mad and everyone gonna jump on me now but i feel that if your on life support and the hospital knows your a donor they will be too quick to turn it off and say there is no hope so they can have organs. So i tole my husband wait until they say that first then when they ask say yes they can take everything. I know you all think im mad now but just way i feel .
hi oriel, i'd really like to hear more about your experience as a living donor. are you able to contact me plse? all the best emma, that's life health editor
Apparently now everyone in the UK is registered as an organ donor and don't even realise it. You have to ring a certain place to be taken off the list. But I think this is a good idea because a lot of people are stingy when it comes to donating organs... Don't know what the problem is because it just helps people, I'm certainly going to be an organ donor.
