Meeting the Prime Minister
As editor of that's life! I attended a function today at No 10 Downing Street to meet Gordon Brown. It was a chance for editors to question him over his health care policies. What would you have asked him about the National Health Service if you'd had the chance and what are your main worries?

there shouldn't be areas
there shouldn't be areas where people cannot get certain medication for thier illnesses, if people are suffering from an illness it should not matter where they live, everyone is entitled to the medication they require.

re medication for all
good point, Lottie. If I get enough questions from readers I'll go back to the PM [well, start with his press office] and put them to him. It's all very well him meeting the editors but it's our readers' questions that matter.

i would ask how he can have
i would ask how he can have such a high tax on cigarettes, ensuring smokers really pay highly for their privelege, and then contemplate a legislation removing smokers entitlement for certain surgery, when this is a system they 'through their taxes' contribute much to.
i'm sure that if i met him, i would have much more to say, as i feel very strongly about his incompetence and the shambles our country is becoming.

My main concerns are the
My main concerns are the maternity services. I know several ladies that have had prem babies and had to be moved to hospitals far away. One lady had to be airlifted from Northern Ireland to Scotland to deliver her triplets. Sadly one of the boys passed away. People should be able to give birth at their local hospitals and not be moved at what is, a traumatic enough time for them. I also think that GBS should be routinely tested for too... its a killer. A simple test could save the lives of thousands of babies.
And finally, i think that the 24 week viability cut off point needs to be lowered drastically. After seeing the story about the baby who was born at 16 weeks gestation being ferried around in an ambulance for god knows how long... i think that if a baby breathes, some attempt should be made to save that baby's life regardless of how old that baby is gestationally
This is longer than i expected, sorry!

council housing
could you ask him why hard working people ahve no chance of getting council housing as they are all reserved for immegrants, people on benefits and people with more than four kids. I have been on the housing regester since i was 16 years old i am now 35. Im married with two children, myself and my husband work and i bring up my two children with out claiming benefits. I went to the council for help when my landlord was selling our property. We rent privatly but because the rent is so dear we cannot afford to save for morgage. The council said because we work and do not claim housing benefit and income support that they could not house us we would have to pay for our own b&b and storage. If we were on the dole and just dossed around we were intitled to every help going. When is this country going to stand up and look after its own hard working english people,

Housing - wot a mess
I think the council ought to prioritise housing for British folk before considering the ever growing number of imigrants. Dont get me wrong, I welcome them here. But (am I alone in thinking this?) since the floodgates were opened, there has been increasing difficulty for the British public to find jobs for themselves? Let alone an affordable abode? Housing prices are now becoming impossible for anyone. I believe we need help as a nation and we certainly arent being led well! The Government need to ammend mistakes in so many areas, and we're the ones left to suffer. I want better for my son than this in the future.
