this is interesting; years and years ago, people used to do it all the time (and in curlers as well!) but really, only rarely these days. a few weeks ago, one sunday morning,i saw a student (girl) in my local cornershop with her pj`s on-thought it was really comical and it made me laugh! and also, i was reading the other say that a school had asked parents- via formal letter-to stop doing the schoolrun in pyjamas, because there was so many of them doing it. Apparently, they said it was 'being disrespectful and lazy'. but personally speaking, it doesn`t (and wouldn`t)really bother me if people go out and about in them....

shopping in pyjamas?!!
I don't even like answering the door if I'm still in my nightie, so I'm glad the postman no longer does early morning deliveries. There's no way I'd go shopping in pyjamas!

PJ's
Hi All, One of the problems that I see is that you can not always tell if they are PJ's as a lot of people wear lightweight Jogging Bottoms and tops as PJ's. They are not sold as pj's but are very comfortable if you wear them as such. In the evening I allways change into them for lazing around and if it is cold will go to bed in them. And in the mornings if have sometimes gone to the newsagents in them. There was an article about this and a Model a couple of weeks ago (Cant remember her Name) but she went to tesco's in Joggers and was told the same thing she could not go enter the shop in PJ's But they were Joggers!!!

Yes I do
I have and will continue to do so. Why would I bother to get dressed just so i can walk down the road and then come back to my house? thats silly. Its just snobbery if you ask me. If the person is appropriately covered its fine. I don't have kids and I don't consider myself to be lazy or a slob, just practical and time saving. Naturally I would not take a days shopping trip out in my pjs, but going down the road to get a pint of milk is another story.

Inappropriate?
I personally wouldn't go shopping in my pyjamas, but if people want to, then why not? Slapping a ban on them is ridiculous when you take a look at what some other folk are wearing, or shall we say, not wearing...how is it appropriate by definition to be shopping in crop tops and mini-mini skirts that leave nothing to the imagination, thats all well and good, but pyjamas which cover you up from top to toe? certainly not....get it right, supermarkets!!!!!

shopping in your pyjamas
I wouldn't dream of going shopping in my pyjamas. I would still be in that dream state that we get when we just get up and I wouldn't be able to concentrate. When I'm dressed my mind set alters and I more alert so for me that's better. But I wouldn't say anything to anyone else who wanted to do it.

Pyjama Shopping...

Sorry folks but I'm with the Supermarkets on this issue!

Not bothering to get dressed before going out in public is not only idle but smacks of lack of self-respect and dignity in my opinion.

I am disabled with a bad back but the only way I would leave the house in my nightwear is by being dragged into am ambulance screaming in agony (Ooh yes that's really happened as well!).

There is no excuse for not throwing some clothes on no matter how much in a hurry you are in, and as for school runs I did them for years - it's just a matter of being organised and choosing something to wear the night before (not rocket science after all).

Why should stores allow people to shop in their PJ's? Common decency and standards should still count for something, so if Supermarkets want people to be fully dressed (not withstanding some of the ghastly sights we see on our travels - Yuk!)then so be it.

And before you start thinking I'm some old biddy going on I'm 45 and am mum to a 17 year old girl, OK!?

I am disabled too and have
I am disabled too and have worn PJ's to the shops and physio. It had nothing to do with been lazy, I wore them because they were easier to put on than my everyday clothes. They werent the PJ's I wore to bed, they were clean and looked more like Jogging bottoms.

I would
I'd goto the shop in my jammies. Why put on clean clothes for the sake of 5-10 minutes while you nip down to the shop for milk or sugar? Some people feel more comfortable in their jammies. All mine have stars on, and I'd still be happy to go out in them. I used to run out to the ice cream van aswell

this is interesting...........
I really can`t see what all the fuss is about! If people want to shop in their pj`s then why shouldn`t they? I wouldn`t bat an eyelid if i saw someone in our local supermarket in their pj`s... surely it should be the shoppers choice, and i can`t understand why some people find it disrespectful!

I'm lucky as I home school
I'm lucky as I home school both my boys so we're never really bothered by the morning rush. But I do try to get dressed before facing the public - it was really embarrassing in the run up to Christmas when the postie kept delivering things at about 7 in the morning and I was still in my pyjamas with serious bed hair! However, I do remember that my mum would never dress before we went to school, and one morning I found out why. Coming home because I'd forgotten something I saw that she'd gone back to bed! I was most put out especially as she used to hound us out first thing in the morning.

why not?
I dont understand what all the fuss is about, why should we frown on people of they go to the shop in their pj's? Ive certainly done it before. I have 4 young children who need my attention from the moment they wake up and if i need to nip to the shop to get milk for their breakfasts i'll go in my pj's. At least im not wearing a mini skirt and low cut top, i am totally covered up. If tescos feel that pj's need banning, then they should ban people wearing too little

It's Lazy!!!
I used to always be in my Pyjamas. I practically used to live in them.... When I was 14/15. Now I think it's just lazieness. If you have got small children and know you have to be up early in the morning why can't people just get there clothes ready the night before?? It's also unclean. You have slept in them all night (probably the same under-ware from the day before) sweated in them in bed. Its just easy the night before sort your clothes out and put them on in the morning... It makes me laugh that people that actually IRON there pyjamas just to put clean ones on to go out shopping. WHY??? If there that comfy you can buy Jogging Bottoms that are just as comfy. Girls, Its Not A Good Look. :-D

WHY ON EARTH ARE MUMS ARE ALLOWED TO DRESS LIKE THIS. THE GOVERNMENT.NEED. TO STOP PAYING SINGLE MUMS BENEFITS OUT OF THE TAXPAYERS MONEY. WHY SHUD THE TASXPAYER KEEP THEM. ITS LIKE A MEAL TICKET FOR THEM. U AVE KIDS THEN THE TAXPAYER GOT KEEP THEM. ITS A DISGRACE THEY SHUD BE MADE TO GO. ON CONTRACEPTION AT 15 AND HEALTH VISITORS AT SCHOOLS. THIS WUD PREVENT CHILDREN BEING BOUGHT UP ON BENEFITS. WHAT SORT OF LIFE HAVE THESE KIDS GT IF THEIR MUMS CANT EVEN BE BOTHERED GETTIN G WASHED AND CHANGED IN THE MORNINGS. IT IS INDEED A VERY SLOBBISH BEHAVIOUR AND BAD MANNERS. NO WONDER THE UK IS THE WAY IT IS.IF MORE CULTURE WAS GIVEN TO THESE PPL THEN MAYBE THE WORLD WUD BE A BETTER PLACE.I HAVE WRKED FOR 27 YEARS AND NOT ONCE DID I DRESS LKE A TRAMP IN FRO NT OF MY CHILDREN.

Some people who have kids
Some people who have kids cant work as they cant afford the cost of childminding, or they have disabilities that stop them from working. I think you should stop genarlising people! My mum would LOVE to go back to work, but due to her stroke she has lost most of the use from her left side. If it wasnt for benefits and things like that then she'd wouldnt be able to live where she is. (A downstairs flat, provided by the council may I add, suitable for disabled people) Do our taxes not also pay for the education of kids? And does it also not pay for the NHS? Why take it out on mothers who cant afford to go back to work?

Shopping in Pyjamas
I can't see any reason for not having time to get dressed in the mornings. I'm a mum and I work. It's all about routine. When my daughter first started school I would often hear other mothers complaining that they had no time to do anything before having to pick up their child again, I couldn't understand why - I'd get my shopping, go home, strip beds, bake, prepare dinner and work for my husband. Then I realised that the mothers who complained about having no time to do anything could often be found chatting outside the school gates for anything up to an hour after their child had gone into class. Admittedly I didn’t become a mother until the age of 37, I’d always worked and had to be somewhere in the mornings, hence I always dressed. At the risk of being controversial could it be that the women who say they have no time to get dressed in the mornings are the ones who’ve never worked?

Shopping in pj's
I lost the use of my right arm in an accident and it is awkward for me to get dressed/undressed, and certainly not something I can manage in a hurry. However, I would not go out to the shops in my pyjamas. I do think it's down to laziness, but as far as disrespectful goes, who are they disrespecting if they are decent and everything is covered as it would be had they bothered to dress? It is a matter of personal choice, but also organisation and priorities. I would not do it myself, but I have thrown clothes on over the top of my pj's to walk the dog early. For me to dress for dog-walking, get home and showered, dressed etc ready for my day, would simply take too much time, and in all honesty, if I did everything the way I did when I was able-bodied and had 3 jobs and a full-on lifestyle, I would be in constant agony. However, if I'm in the privacy of my own home and the postman knocks, I'm not going to try and throw jeans/top on - by the time I managed it he'd be half way down the road, so as long as I'm decent, I think that's okay. Like shell suits, I for one do hope that this does not become a common practice in public. I'm no snob and it does not offend me, but it just isn't necessary.

Outrageously ridiculous. Free country, freedom of style...

This is ridiculous, a few yrs ago, I would NEVER have done it, and while in England, I probably wouldn't do it now either, still, but that is purely BECAUSE of the snobbery.
I'm in Canada right now, and wear my jammies to the store all the time... at night, after I've just showered and get the munchies.
In the mornings, I've changed into clean pj's to lounge in, or go out and run errands, if I have to.

My issue right now is comfort, because the heat is outrageous. It doesn't mean you're dirty if you walk around in public, in pjs. Nor does it mean you're lazy. Would it not be the same as wearing the same jeans and shirt 4-5 days in a row, as jumping up out of bed and walking your dog in your pjs, so it can do its business? I think that would be LESS dirty.
Are supermarkets going to ban skirts? Hot pants? Tank tops? Boob tubes? Make a dress code to enter the store?? If they are banning entry to people in pjs, what is next?? This is way overboard. Already they say you have to wear a shirt if you're a man and shoes, that is acceptable, but telling people what they can and can't wear?? Ridiculous!

I LOVE star pjs and some of them are totally wearable. Same as checkered/plaid. I have a plaid pair of shorts and I have a plaid pair of pj shorts, you can barely tell the difference. I wear them as part of an outfit.
Pjs could be some peoples style of fashion. Will goth and emo dress be banned next? Are they trying to take away everyones sense of style and comfort and individuality? 'You can't come in because you're wearing lounge-wear that looks like pj's, but OH you SELL them!!' Totally hypocritical, HAH. I think it's a total joke. Soon you will only be able to enter the store in clothes bought FROM that store, hah.

shopping in pjs
weren't tesco the first to offer 24 hour shopping? they'll let you go at 2am in the morning and spend your money but wont let you go in your pjs, how sad. and as l,ong as the kids are clean and tidy what does it matter if mum gets ready a bit later?

Here it's only in the proper
Here it's only in the proper ghetto areas that you see females traipsing about in their pyjamas. It shows lack of effort, laziness & is slovenly! I LOVE my pyjamas but to see people in them in public is just depressing, like they've given up on life & are demotivated. It's like well if they can't even be bothered to get dressed I dread to think what state their home/life is in! I wouldn't go out in them because I know what people think when they see someone in them..and they're correct!
