....Unfortunately, I'd say 'no'. Ignorant, violent, irresponsible women like this are ten a penny. Women smoking, drinking and taking drugs during pregnancy are the reason why we have so many problem children in this country. The poor kids are physically damaged before they are even born and then learn poor behaviour from their feckless parents. I look after a little boy with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. His mother drank throughout her pregnancy with him and he is now permanantly brain-damaged as a result. He has learning difficulties and behavioural problems. He was only 4lbs when born at full term. PLEASE DO NOT DRINK WHEN YOU ARE PREGNANT. It is poisonous to a developing fetus.

i agree, some mothers have no idea what they are doing to their child or blatently dont care. Some even say my midwife said it does more damage to stop smoking completely she said to cut down. No what the midwife meant was that she has no chance of convincing you to stop smoking altogether so at least cut down. You have failed as a mother to start with if you cant even look after your child and keep it healthy BEFORE its even born. If a woman cant be bothered to stop drinking , smoking, taking drugs what chance has the child got when its born and what sort of life is it going to have. druggys and alcoholics are selfish people so they can never put their children first cause if they could they would!!! If you cant put your children first then dont have them!!

awful mothers
Its a disgrace there a people out there dreaming to have children of there own who would do everything right throughout there pregnancy then you get the I don't give a dam what I do. When they look at that heart beating on the scan does that not trigger something inside to do the best you can to keep your little one safe and healthy I guess they have no heart I am a mother to 4boys I had so many parties, bdays, events while I was pregnant but I never touched a drop I even got engaged whilst pregnant but was happy to toast it with a glass of coke and ice these ladys shouldn't be allowed to fall pregnant at all

I could not agree with you
I could not agree with you guys more. Many years ago I ripped into a pregnant woman who was drinking and smoking cannabis. Her argument was "It was her body and baby and could do what she wanted" I asked her how many cigs and cans of booze would she give to the baby once it was born. She looked at me as if I was a evil and said "None you moron, I'd never do that" My reply was "Why not, you're giving it plenty of alcohol, nicotine and drugs now, why stop when it's born" She promptly burst into tears and put the cig out and poured the beer away.

Moderation perhaps?
I quite agree that people should be discouraged from drinking too much, but I think we should be able to do things in moderation. I don't think it's a particularly good thing for a parent or child if the parent has to sublimate every desire for the sake of a child. It should be remembered that in the not too distant past most people used to smoke and drink in moderation and I don't remember any children suffering for it. It seems to me we live in a nanny state where we can't drink, smoke, eat or even throw snowballs because of health and safety. What a life! i do sympathise with your point about a child getting alcoholic poisoning and weighing only 4lbs at birth (thats awful)but it just seems that poor pregnant women can't have any fun. Live a little!
